Photo Combining in Digital Art can mean many things.  You can put 2 or more  images on one layer to form a collage. Each image  will be on a distinctive layer.  This is one of the easiest ways to combines photos. Another way would be to put different images in one photo to tell a story where   the images appear as if they were photographed together. A more complex way would be to take one or more images put them together and blend them together to create an image that would be a bit more unusual or even surreal.

In the following photographs 2 images were combined in one layer and  blended to create Digital Art. In addition a filter was used to create the desired effect. The first image style is more realistic. The second one is artistic with brush stroke style. Both images have the same combination except different filters were used on each of them.

Filters are  a kind of special effect digital artists to enhance their art.  For example when you combine and blend your photos you may want them to have a certain artistic look and that's where filters shine. You may want your combine image to look like a sketch, a charcoal painting or a water color. It is very versatile for use in Digital Art. This style of Photo combining and  blending  with the addition of filters are commonly used in the production of Movie Posters or  Book Covers.

Photoshop CC was the software used in  this case, but it can be pricey.  One can achieve the same  result with free software available on line.  For example  Gimp is comparable to Photoshop, and it is easier to learn.   Pixlr Editor, is a free tool that  can be used in your web browser.  So for the budding Digital artist, don't let expensive software prevent you from trying your hand at creating and experimenting with Digital Art.
